Where are character skins installed?

The character skins need to go to your The Klub17/Mod/ActiveMod folder

They need to be in their own folder best. If there's a bump, it will go in that same folder with the skin, into a sub folder and will need the proper Pass files, in a lot of cases the bumps are already set up, you can just copy them to other skins folders. If you place the textures in the ActiveMod with no folder, it will replace the original add-on texture. (in some cases you need to do this, the original file has no texture)

All textures go into ActiveMod, they're png files usually (can be other formats in some cases), all t** or other files, add-on files belong in your add-on folder.

And how do you properly name skins so they replace textures of a given model? I've just been copying folders in Active mod and mashing my own homebrew there, now I am trying to learn doing it from scratch.

A skin set will have pre-determined texture names, which will vary a little depending on gender and resolution.

the basic names for a 1X female skin are:

Female_White_Body
Female_White_Feet
Female_White_Genital
Female_White_Hand
Female_White_Head

The Activemod  folder these are in can be labelled as whatever you like (eg. Camilla_skin,  Skin_106, Robot_Skin...  ).

A particular skin set is not going to be associated with a given model until you select that skin in the Body Customiser (unless the model is downloaded with a body Save which references a specific skin usually provided with the download)

Once the model is saved (or returned to gameplay), it will then re-load with that chosen skin each time it is used.

Alright that is very helpful, thank you!

In some cases if you put the model in the Save Folder and you don't see it in the Choose myself.... you can take an existing model make a copy. Find the new model number you just made the copy of  in the models folder. Say Model1082. Verify the new copy by viewing the icon. Override the new Model you downloaded and replace all the old files with the new ones EXCEPT Base.id. You should most likely see the new model. This sometimes will not work do to different modders creating their own file structures.
