Say hello to the baddest man on the planet.
Gerard Yaz has made a name for himself in the underworld of Empire City by being the most ruthless, cutthroat and brutal fighter on the streets. Orphaned as a child, his early life was spent as a mere urchin in The Hallows, Empire City's crime ridden hellscape. As a child, he would hustle and steal for food, until one day he stole from the wrong person...Taka Shinoda, the most powerful Yakuza boss on the East coast. The penalty for stealing from him was death, but the then 7 year old Gerard defiantly resisted his fate. Taka admired the young boy's tenacity and decided killing him would be a waste. No, he would put Gerard to work for him as a "runner" for his opium trade. Taka often used children as his corriors, as law enforcement would never look to check homeless children. Gerard would quickly prove his usefulness not only as a runner, but a companion for his young son, Sho. Seeing the bond the boys where developing, Taka decided to take Gerard in as an adopted son, and teach him the ways of the Shinoda clan.
Gerard would undergo vigorous training and emerge to become not just a capable fighter, but the Shinoda clan's BEST fighter. By 18, Gerard has fought, competed and become a champion in the underground fighting rings of the country. By 21, he assumed his place by Sho's side as one of the clan's top warriors. Now 30 and with years of combat and bloodshed under his name, something strange as begun to happen. A voice has begun to echo in his head asking a single question over and over; "What is the Magnum Opus?"
Gerard Yaz is a character that's buzzed about in my head for the better part of 15 years. He's had many names and many incarnations...but the story I've concocted for him has remained the same. Obviously I can't go into detail about him without giving away the story of Magnum Opus, but what I can say is that he's a heroic anti-hero. Make no bones about it, Yaz is not what you'd call a just man. He's cunning, ruthless and petty to a fault. But he's also honorable, loyal and stands on his convictions. And all of his traits will be put on display within the story. He also happens to be a one man army. I'll put it this way, if I were to gauge the scale of fighting ability of Gerard to say...John Herrig and Lori Stiel...he'd mop the floor with them both...simultaneously. He's a walking engine of destruction capable of unspeakable acts of violence. And violence is his trade. As the story plays out and you learn of his motivations and the question now burned into his mind, his destiny will ultimately be revealed. And there will be broken bones and piles of bodies laid behind him when it is.
A special shoutout goes to @HDiddy for whipping up the outfit Gerard wears for me. I've still got more characters to make for this project, bold ideas indeed. I hope to have the 1st entry of the story by December if all goes according to plan.
